With the web going mobile, there is no turning back now! More and more users have begun to access the Internet right from their mobile phones. So, what does this mean to all the web designers and developers? It means adding a mobile strategy to your business campaign!

Depending on the type of project, your strategy will differ. But you do need a strategy on how you want your client’s website to function in the mobile space. So, whether you are designing a static site or a content-driven site, it is always wise to follow a careful approach that includes looking at your mobile website experience.
  1. Identify the need for a Mobile Site: You will generally get a mobile design project if: it is a new website and is in need of a mobile as well as a desktop strategy, if it is a redesign project that includes a mobile site, if it is an addition of a mobile site to a desktop site. Find out the requirements first before you get started.

  2. What are the Business Objectives: Your client will hire you to design a mobile site for various business purposes. It is important to find out what these business objectives are and how they relate to the mobile website. Start by prioritizing these objectives and then implementing these in your design.

  3. Study the websites past data: If the project is a redesign one or an addition of a mobile site to an existing one, then the site will already be pulling in traffic through Google Analytics or any other software. Study this data before you start with your designing project. Analyze what devices and browsers your users are currently using to access the site.

  4. Keep your Web Design Responsive: Optimize the website for various types of desktops and mobile browsers.

  5. Keep it simple but not too simple! When converting a desktop sit to a mobile one, it is wise to keep it simple. Reducing the file size and load time is also a good idea. Make sure usability is also easy as well as the design, layout and navigation. However, make sure you create beautiful designed that are just optimized for a mobile site.
